Nigerians too timid for revolution – Amaechi

Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has ruled out the possibility of having a violent revolution in the country.

Amaechi spoke in Ekiti State on Saturday at the second Nigeria Symposium for Young and Emerging Leaders.

Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, Prof. Pat Utomi, Chief Executive Officer of Sahara Group, Mr. Tonye Cole, and representative of Delta State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, among others, attended the symposium, organised by The Future Project. Read more…

MEND threat: Gunmen kill 13 policemen in Bayelsa

Tension has enveloped Bayelsa State following the killing of 13 policemen by armed gunmen on Friday night in Oporoma, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

The armed gunmen were suspected to be foot soldiers of Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND).

MEND had on Wednesday last week threatened to unleash sporadic attacks on oil installations in the Niger Delta to avenge the committal to jail of its leader, Henry Okah, by a South African court. Read more…

As 28 are killed in terror attacks…Insurgents hit bank, police station, prisons

Barely four days after the bombings in Kano which left scores dead, gunmen struck in Adamawa State.

At the end of the attack, late Friday, no fewer than 25 persons, including a former commissioner in old Gongola State, were feared dead.

Scene of attack was the headquarters of Ganye local government.
The suspected insurgents hit Adamawa just as another suicide attack was foiled by security agents in Kano yesterday. Read more…

Robbery suspect nabbed while selling stolen item to owner

Sadiq Adetumobi,23 is currently cooling his heels at the  State Criminal Investigations Department,SCID,over the recovery of  stolen fabrics  worth millions of naira in his possession.

Chinua Achebe dies at 82

Nigerian literary icon and author of the famous novel, Things Fall Apart, Prof Chinua Achebe, is dead. He died in the United States yesterday at the age of 82, following a  illness.

In a statement announcing his death yesterday, his family said his “wisdom and courage” were an “inspiration to all who knew him,” adding that the author was “one of the great literary voices of his time.” Read more…

Female Journalist, nursing mother kidnapped by gunmen in Ondo

A member of staff of the Nigerian Television Authority in Akure, Mrs. Bunmi Oke, was on Thursday evening, kidnapped in Akure, the Ondo State capital by unknown gunmen.

Newsmen learnt that Oke was returning home from work when four gunmen double-crossed her car in front of the Motherless Babies Home on Akure-Oba-Ile Road and ordered other occupants out of her vehicle. Read more…

How Charly Boy’s Cousin, Emeka Aseme was murdered

Charly Boy’s cousin, Emeka Aseme, a business tycoon and a hotelier was forcefully taken away by gun wielding men during one of his visits to his 5-Star hotel in Oguta, Imo state on 24th February. Aseme’s family managed to contact the abductors who demanded N8m ransom, which the family paid but Emeka was not released to them.

 On the 9th of March, the men who took the hotelier contacted his younger brother and directed him to go to a community between Owerri and Oguta called Okwonji, to find him brother. Emeka’s decomposed body was found in a bush path, with his sexual organ , eyes and the heart plucked out. Read more…

We won’t beg FG to pardon Saro-Wiwa, others –N’Delta groups

The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People has said it will not approach the Federal Government for a presidential pardon for late environmentalist and activist, Ken Saro-Wiwa, and eight others who were hanged by the Gen. Sani Abacha military regime.

MOSOP stated that since Saro-Wiwa and eight of their kinsmen did not commit the offence for which they were killed, it would be inappropriate for them to ask government to grant them (Ogoni Nine) amnesty. Read more…
